According to ramayana the ancient name of kanyakubj was mahodaya.this place was situated in the middle india. kanyakubj brahmins mean brahmins of kannauj region.kanyakubj brahmins controlled vast empire of terroteries of the great india after declination of mauryas.big lanlords ayodhya naresh,raja sisedani,maharaja of old kanpur e.tc. are belong to kanyakubj brahmins,according to ayodhya abhilekh, the ruler of ayodhya was raja dhandev,who was belong to the family of pushyamitra shung.pushyamitra shung was a great king of patliputra and the time of pushyamitra shung kanyakubj brahmins spread all over india.because his kul was acharya,achraya is the synonums word of upadhyay.and he was belong to vidisha.kanyakubj brahmins also have a good population in vidisha .I visited bihar and i found this surname upadhyay is only use by the kanyakubj brahmins.and kanyakubj brahmins have big population near the patna(danapur region,bhojpur,buxar,rohtas,kaimur,dehri aanson,sasaram).and they came here from ayodhya region and kannauj region.some writer says that pushyamitra shung was belong to ujjain and his gotra was kasyap,but malviya brahmin has no population in bihar and jharkhand.and these writer give this statement according to kalidas.kalidas was a respected person in the court of vikramaditya and he was not born on the time of pushyamitra shung.maharshi panini was belong to time of shung vansh and he said that his gotra was bhardwaj and he was the guru of maharsi patanjali(purohit of pushyamitra shung).after conclusion i found that shung vansh was kanyakubj brahmins of bhardwaj gotra.according to kashi prasad jaisawal he was belong to vidisha,vidisha also has good population of kanyakubj brahmins.some people consider that kanyakubj brahmins and saryuparin brahmins are same.kanyakubj brahmins are differ from saryuparin brahmins.saryuparin brahmins belong to gonda,gorakhpur and bahraich and they have no connection with kannauj.kanyakubj brahmins are belong to middle india and saryuparin brahmins are belong to eastern india.

some myth says that when shri ramchandra came ayodhya after killing of ravana,kanyakubj brahmins didnot accept prasad from shri ramchandra because he was the guilty of brahmhatya.kanyakubj brahmins exerted power on the time of pushyamitra shung who born in the kanyakubj brahmins kula of bhardwaj gotra.ramayana and puran also indicate that kanyakubj brahmins are high kula brahmins who always done ashwamedh yagya.pushyamitra shung belonged to kanyakubj brahmins kula of bhardwaj gotra and he done two ashwamedha yajna.

i was going to teach some one asked me that which brahmin you belong,i said that i am kanyakubj brahmin.then that man asked what is the mean of kanyakubj brahmins then i said that kanyakubj brahmins mean brahmins of kannauj region.the region of kanyakubj brahmins are region between ayodhya and agra.agra is dominated by sanadhya brahmins but etha,and ferozabad have good population of kanyakubj brahmins.now we explore the history of kanyakubj brahmins.first we go to the vadik era,on the time of ramayana,the ancient name of kanyakubj brahmins are mahodaya.this region was situated in middle india.middle india means some part are in uttarparadesh and some are in madhyapradesh.we know the name of god parshuram,few people know that he was the kanyakubj brahmin.because god parshuram`s grand father maharshi rucheek was belong to kannauj.that time kanyakubj contain both kanpur(gadhipur) and kannauj.the king of kanpur was raja gadhi who married his daughter with maharshi rucheek.he married his daughter gangapar from kanpur.gangapar of kanpur comes kannauj so god parshuram was the kanyakubj brahmin.puran also indicate that in ancient time,chandravansi kshatriya was the ruler of kanyakubj..kanyakubj brahmins spread all over india on the time of pushyamitra shung who was the great king of patliputra.he born in the kanyakubj brahmin kula of bhardwaj gotra.ramayana also indicate that kanyakubj brahmins are well respected high kula brahmins.
